North Down and Ards local lesbian and gay group has announced plans for its next event. The group will hold a Health and Wellbeing event on Tuesday 5 February 2008, 8pm at Marine Court Hotel, Quay Street, Bangor.

Those attending will be able to obtain free health checks from South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust representatives plus advice on personal fitness from professional fitness instructors. The Rainbow Project will also be present to outline the range of mental and physical health services they provide to gay and bisexual men.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people are welcome to attend along with their friends and family. Attendance is free. No charges will be made by any of the health and fitness professionals present.

To group will then visit a local bar after the meeting for a few social drinks.

Commenting on the event, Andrew Muir, Chairperson of North Down and Ards LGBT group remarked “very often we only concentrate on our own health when something goes wrong. This event is designed to allow those attending to consider ways to prevent health problems in a relaxed, informal and fun way without any cost whatsoever”.

Continuing, Andrew stated “a number of group members will be present to welcome the many newcomers who often appear at our events. We are deeply grateful to South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust for making this event possible through the provision of funding to cover room hire”.

Concluding, Andrew remarked “Plans are currently being finalised for an event to take place on 10 March 2008 where the group will celebrate its first Birthday and formally re-launch with a new name, vision and enhanced range of services and events. The event will conclude with a quiz and is guaranteed to be a memorable occasion. Details will follow closer to the time”.
